6 of The Best Food Places in Sheffield For Students

6 of The Best Food Places in Sheffield For Students

After a long winter of lockdown restrictions followed by a chilly spring of eating outdoors, our favourite restaurants look set to be able to return on May 17th so I'll be out and about eating in Sheffield

We can all let out a collective cheer to be able to meet friends and family inside again, but deciding which restaurants and bars to head to first can be a tricky dilemma.

You might have some firm favourites in the Steel City you can’t wait to return to or need some inspiration of where to book after a year of takeaways. So, to save you the trouble of hunting around,  we’ve rounded up some of the best food places in Sheffield for students.

Some of the places we’ve chosen to feature are currently open for outside dining, but many are waiting until restrictions ease before they start serving again.

Craft and Dough - Kelham Island

A producer of amazing artisan pizzas, with fresh dough and a secret recipe tomato sauce, Craft and Dough is sure to be a crowd-pleaser for your group.

The menu is full of classics like margherita and pepperoni, but also features a unique take on pizza toppings with frazzles and buffalo cauliflower wings getting a feature.

There’s also bottomless brunch on offer, with unlimited prosecco and their extensive brunch menu to choose from. We’d recommend a catch up with your friends over their bacon waffles and a glass of fizz.

During lockdown restrictions, the team have been offering takeaway and Deliveroo options, but are now accepting bookings from May 17th onwards.

Forge Bakehouse - Abbeydale Road

If you fancy brunch, but want to forgo the booze, make a trip to Forge Bakehouse. Serving the good people of Sheffield since 2012, the team specialises in fresh bread, pastries and sandwiches.

The bakery’s focus is on lovingly handcrafted food made with the best local ingredients. Expanding over the years, the demand for their products has increased tenfold, so you’ll need to be quick off the mark each morning to grab your favourite!

When restrictions allow, owner Martha also hosts bread making classes, allowing you to bring the bakery to your home. You’ll learn to make various breads and pastries.

If you’re not able to get to the bakehouse yet, the team opened a webshop during lockdown with collection and delivery options available.

Forge is open Tuesday-Sunday with outdoor seating available, and the indoor cafe is open from May 17th onwards.

The Greedy Greek Deli - Sharrow Vale Road

For those with a big appetite, it’s all in the name at the Greedy Greek! This popular family-run restaurant has been serving up authentic and traditional Greek food since 2003.

Using the recipes created by Mama Tassia in Zante, the team focus on organic and homegrown ingredients to capture the taste of Greece right here in Sheffield.

The Greedy Greek have kept students in mind with their menu too, with meze meal deals available for groups to eat in or takeaway. They’ve also made sure to cater for vegan and vegetarian guests, with an extensive menu of options. We’re hungry just thinking about it!

While restrictions are in place, the team are offering a delivery and takeaway service. The deli remains open with relaxed outdoor seating for warmer days too.

Don’t be fooled by the exterior of this place, it offers some of the best Vietnamese food in the Steel City.

Providing a hand-picked selection of some of the best dishes across South-East Asia, each meal is lovingly prepared by a team of experienced chefs. You’ll also receive a warm welcome from their lovely front of house team.

Don’t forget to try their PHO, flat rice noodles served in a delicious broth with thin slices of beef. They also offer veggie, vegan and gluten-free options.

You can dine in from May 17th or grab a takeaway tonight.

Urban Choola - Ecclesall Road

If Indian street food is more your scene, head to Urban Choola. Taking their inspiration from street vendors across India, the menu focuses on dishes cooked in the tandoor with their own contemporary twist.

The informal nature of the dishes makes it a great place for group outings, and with plenty of options for all dietary requirements, there’s something for everyone.

after 13 years in the city, they are renowned for serving up some of the best Chinese food around.

A popular spot with locals and students alike, their ‘Big Bowl’ noodles are famous if you’re after a satisfying dish for a reasonable price.
