12 Easy Halloween Cupcakes you can make at home

Easy Halloween Cupcakes at home

It's prime spooky season and there's pumpkins everywhere! I for one absolutely love Halloween, watching lots of scary movies and eating lots of fun treats. Halloween 2020 is slightly different as due to various lockdowns within the UK you're probably can't do Halloween parties or go out trick or treating so it's time to get inventive to create the best Halloween at home. First up is of course making some delicious treats to enjoy while watching your movies

Easy-Halloween-Cupcakes

With Halloween being a home affair this year I've focused in on family friendly treats where everyone can get involved with the creation depending on their age level and who doesn't love cupcakes?

Easy Halloween Cupcake Recipe

Halloween Cupcakes

So to get started you need to make the cupcakes themselves, now if you really want to cheat at this bit and get on with the decorating you could always buy some plain cupcakes but I definitely prefer homemade - this recipe should make 12

Ingredients

  • 200g Plain Flour
  • 150g Granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
  • ½tsp salt
  • 120ml milk
  • 120ml oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence

Method

  1. Add all of the dry ingredients to a bowl and ensure they're all mixed together
  2. Add all the wet ingredients to the dry mixture and beat together until the mixture is smooth and creamy
  3. Spoon the mixture into cupcake liners and fill half of the way up the case - this should lead you to getting 12 flat topped cupcakes
  4. Bake for 15 minutes at 180ÂșC
  5. Leave them to cool and I can't stress this enough! Your beautiful decorations will slide off if you don't let them cool properly

Now you've got 12 delicious vanilla cupcakes all ready to decorate which is definitely the fun part - I hope you like my designs! Here's how to make them:

Claw Mark Halloween Cupcake

Claw Mark - You will need butter, icing sugar and red food colouring. To make a basic white buttercream mix together butter and icing at a 1:2 ratio and then pipe onto the top of your cupcake to give a flat effect. Use the handle of a teaspoon to make three indent lines and then pipe in a red icing sugar line to the three gaps (to make icing sugar add red food colouring to icing sugar and a few drops of water to get the consistency you desire

Blood Spatter Halloween Cupcake

Blood Drips - You will need butter, icing sugar and red food colouring
Really easy and similar to the claw mark make up your buttercream but this time try and pipe a raised design - there's lots of youtube videos on different designs. Then drizzle red icing to give the effect of blood drips and spatters

Frankenstein Halloween Cupcake

Frankenstein - You will need butter, icing sugar, green food colouring, chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, edible eyes
This was one of my favourites! Make a regular butter cream and add green food colouring then pipe onto your cupcake. Ideally you need a flat top for this one, scatter chocolate chips on the top for Frankensteins hair, add some edible eyes and two marshmallows either side of his face for the 'bolts'

Spider Halloween Cupcake

Spider - You will need butter, icing sugar, oreos, edible eyes, matchmakers
Pipe white buttercream for your base. Place half of an oreo on the buttercream, stick edible eyes on with a little buttercream and break up two matchmakers to make 8 mini legs

Spiders Web Halloween Cupcake

Spiders web - You will need butter, icing sugar and red food colouring
Pipe white buttercream onto your cupcake and then create a swirl with the red icing. Use a teaspoon handle to pull the red icing from the middle to give a 'web' effect. Add a plastic spider for decoration

Gravestone Halloween Cupcake

Graveyard - You will need butter, icing sugar, green food colouring, red food colouring, oreo, orange jelly bean, matchmaker.
A lot of effort but it looks so pretty! Pipe green buttercream onto your cupcake and then use the handle of a teaspoon to try and make a gap thick enough for half of an oreo. Pipe RIP onto one half of an oreo and thne place this into the gap you've created on the cupcake. Break off a tiny bit of matchmaker and push that into a jellybean to create a tiny pumpkin

Blood Syringe Halloween Cupcake

Blood Injection - You will need butter, icing sugar, strawberry sauce and a syringe
Take a little bit of cupcake out of the top, as though you were creating a butterfly bun. Pipe buttercream on the top creating an even layer, fill the syringe with strawberry sauce and push into the middle until you can feel it in the cupcake - so much fun squeezing the sauce into your cupcake when you come to eat this one!

Eyeball Halloween Cupcake

Eyeball - You will need Butter, Icing Sugar, Oreo, Red colouring, edible eye
Twist an oreo and use the side with the white cream middle. Place an edible eye in the middle and pipe red stress lines around the eye - stick this onto the cupcake with buttercream

Bat Halloween Cupcake

Bat - You will need chocolate spread, oreo and edible eyes
Use your favourite chocolate spread to pipe a nice solid base. Break an oreo in half and place at an angle to create the wings and add edible eyes onto your chocolate

Boo Halloween Cupcake

Boo - You will need butter, icing sugar and red food colouring
Create a base of buttercream ideally flat, using your icing sugar (you'll need this to be reasonably stiff to write) pipe the word Boo

Green Eyed Monster Cupcake

Green Eyed Monster - You will need butter, icing sugar, green food colouring and edible eyes
Create your green buttercream and then pipe this into a full design. Add your edible eyes everywhere you want to create a green monster

Ghost Halloween Cupcake

Ghost - You will need butter, icing sugar, marshmallow, edible eyes
Create your buttercream and pipe this around a marshmallow and add two edible eyes to create a melting ghost
