4 reasons to pick Hull University as a student

Living and Studying at Hull University

It's officially summertime, the schools are out, exams are completed and we're even in the middle of a heatwave so now is the perfect time to explore the UK a little more. If you've just finished your exams and you're ready to go to University why not go and visit places you could be calling home very soon?
Hull Victoria Square

Why Hull?

When I completed my A-Levels I didn't quite get the results I wanted but it wasn't the end of the world at all, being prepared meant that I didn't panic. I spent my time looking through clearing options* trying to decide where to spend my next three years. I eventually settled on a BSc in Early Childhood Studies via the University of Hull*. It wasn't too far from home and I even got to utilise their Doncaster campus which was even closer so it was the best of both worlds.

What I did learn through doing this is that there are so many things to do in Hull and with recent renovations, over the last few years there are even more reasons to visit Hull and consider it as a place to live for your university years

4 of the best reasons to choose Hull University

Hull is still the UK's City of Culture until the end of 2020 and with that title and the wonderful year they had in 2017 has come a whole heap of investment in making Hull a place you want to be and really putting it on the map

Affordability

One of the best reasons to pick Hull as a place to live is the affordability, it's based on the east riding of Yorkshire and is very much 'up north' as such prices are reflected with this. Average prices include £3 for a pint, £6 for a cinema ticket and monthly rent sub £500! It's going to help you stretch your money so much further. Not to mention that if you achieved 112 UCAS points you'll become eligible for an extra £1200 for living costs that will be gifted automatically

Location

The location of Hull is also brilliant, you're literally in the Hub of everything. From direct trains to London under 3 hours to 1-hour journeys to trendy cities like Leeds and York you're easily accessible to so many different experiences and places. If city life isn't for you, you're a stones throw from the Yorkshire coastline taking you from the hustle of the city to the calm of a beach in an hour. Or even further afield with daily ferry crossings to Belgium and the Netherlands you literally have no excuses to not take advantage and explore

The Deep Hull

Things to Do

There's a whole heap of things to do in Hull from art galleries to concert venues, 5 free museums in the city alone to the famous submarium 'The Deep' which even houses a colony of Gentoo penguins. The City is full of history and culture from the old town to its literary history and maritime history I really recommend a walking tour to fully understand the history behind this city and get a real feel for it. Places I definitely recommend is taking in the Humber Bridge in all it's glory, taking a visit to Burton Constable and Hull Minster. If you're looking for something a little more active why not visit Rock City and improve your climbing, skateboarding and BMX skills

Food & Nightlife

If you're looking for somewhere to hang out, grab a bite to eat and catch up with friends then the Hull Fruit Market should be top of your list. Hulls Old Town, Marina and city centre are seeing a huge transformation from disused warehouses and cobbled streets to a busy bustling independent area full to the brim of delis, restaurants, bars and boutiques all reinventing the city and bringing the heartbeat of culture right into the centre. Highlights include Thieving Harry's and Nibble. Don't miss the Humber street Market (3rd Sunday of every month) with delicious food and bargains galore it's definitely the place to be

Hull is definitely emerging from the shadows and really embracing its cultural side making it a charming place to base yourself during your uni years and beyond.
